Antonio Marcegaglia at European Steel Conference: weak demand for steel<\/span><\/h1>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]The Chairman and CEO Antonio Marcegaglia<\/strong> was one of the speakers at the “European Steel Conference<\/strong>“, organized by World Steel Dynamics<\/strong> in Milan on 28, 29 and 30 October, during which the trends of the steel market<\/strong> were analyzed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main reason behind today\u2019s crisis in the European steel industry is flat demand<\/strong>, but not imports\u201d<\/em>, Antonio Marcegaglia said. \u201cThis is the reason why Europe has become the lowest priced market in the world<\/strong>: demand is even down in the second half of 2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAnother issue for the current unfavourable situation is the low flexibility<\/strong> of European producers in terms of capacity management<\/strong>: they are a little bit slow in adjusting their supply to the falling demand. Only recently we have seen the aggressive reduction in production<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, Marcegaglia said: he expects these capacity cuts (around 6 million tons<\/strong>) to be felt soon, considering the expected seasonal increase in demand in spring or even earlier.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the prospects for the industry, Antonio Marcegaglia thinks that the prices and demand are set to increase<\/strong> as there is no more room for a further drop.<\/p>\n
